Thanks guy's for the info and welcome.
I have just spoken to nrma and get 65% no claim
and other discounts for having other insurance with
them and the quote is $571.99 and can get cheaper
if I except there market value and take off the windscreen
option. They also replace the car new during a two year period
          if stolen or write-off.
Again thanks, and I enjoy this forum site very much.
          Neil.

How long before you get your Jetta? What made you buy the Jetta?

              Hi Tim.
              Thanks for the welcome.
Thats a long answer, but I will be quick with the response.
I hope I am not attacked by other members, but the jetta was
not my first choice, neither was any VW product. However I have
              now seen the light.
I have been looking for the past few months at all the diesel small cars as
I have owned a Diesel for over 16 years (Rodeo)and found it time to get some
safety features. It came down to Golf or astra, after viewing Peugeot, citroen
Fiat,I actually made an offer on the astra which they would not come to my
terms.(price).I have to say the astra diesel was a beautiful car to drive.
Price was not an issue I just wanted a good deal. In the end I said hang the
expense and went for the Golf comfortline as they have specials at $34500
driveaway, but when I got to the dealer and saw the blue grafite jetta I just
said thats the one I want.
Drove both golf and jetta and found the jetta a better riding car. I wonder
if others have the same opion?,maybe its the extra weight.?
Anyway I hope all members can forgive me on my error of gudgment on
even thinking of another brand and I apologize immensely.
Delivery will occur in a few weeks. I have left it up to them. It will give me
more time to learn about the wonderful world of VW on this forum.
              Neil.

Heh heh, , hang the expense eh . .you only live once after all.

I too was in yr position, though i didn't really consider too many other cars..
It was mainly either Liberty/6/jetta. (Though an outsider for me was the Mitsu Outlander -awesome stereo/Vrx model - but just couldn't make myself get into a softroader )
Liberty - snoozy auto. -yes yes, years of manual driving, need a change.
6 - yer... i know too many people with one, still awesome, but with the replacement months away..
Jetta vs Golf - The boot space was the clincher.. big golf nut i am, needed the storage space for multiple sets of golf clubs.
And blue graphite . . that's the same colour i went for as well.

                  Welcome

                  Welcome, Neil.
It's OK to consider other brands of car...It's even OK to buy one if it's the one that you want. I would hope that none of our users would be narrow minded enough to flame you for it. We buy cars usally within the constraints of our budget, not our aspirations.

I'm an old guy living in rural Tassie so I get pretty cheap insurance for my TDI...$380 per year. This doesn't include windscreen but I'm enquiring about an upgrade.

                        Thanks everyone.
Not sure how to take these online quotes??
Todate aami has been the cheapest at $532.00,even
cheaper than nrma with all my member discounts.
                        Shannons,allianz want over $1000.
Might start calling them by phone.
Age maybe a big factor as well, as above members seem
to be getting a good deal. Something I will look forward to.
37 years old must be to young.
                        Neil.
ps. bad news, dealer rang today and cant find the jetta
they thought they had, so looks like could be in for a few months
                        wait before delivery.

Have a search/read of the thread(s) concerning windscreens before excluding them from the insurance. Some people have found the non-genuine ones have poor fits and issues with rain sensors.

                            Thanks Dilbert.who rocks.
Just checked the previous threads and will now tick the box
                            for the replacement option.
Did not think about the rain sensors.
And to think i was complaining about replacing my screen in
                            current rodeo at $160.00
I'm learning heaps from this site and thanks to all.

                              Hi guys,
Can I ask what companies you are both with.
I am now at the stage I have to do some serious insurance hunting for my car. I have probably 2 weeks max to sort it out.
Also, as I have fitted 18" rims and lowered sports suspension I'm thinking that will reduce the insurance companies willing to insure my car.
                              Cheers,
                              Geoff.
