GTI front end over-rated?

Yes and no. It lacked the performance that the 2 previous Golf's had.

Looks wise wheels, darker lights, arches interior, there are a few things that were the different, and different to that of the vr6. Wasn't the vr6 called a Mk3 GTI vr6

Not in Australia. Overseas possibly, happy to admit my Mk3 knowledge is not up to scratch.

Yeah there were a few different aspects to the Mk4 GTIs when compared to the rest of the range, but, badge aside, try getting anyone that's not a trainspotter like us to name them.

In Australia, for example, even the 2.0 Sport had a "better" instrument cluster in the dash!

LOL I admit that the mk4 was very similar and yes the mk3 GTI never came to Australia, but they are rare if someone imports them

For sure the mk5 is improved over the the past 2 models, thats why they make the next model to improve on the last

Its not that hard to say that the mk4 was dissapointing as Clarkson's youtube video shows the mk1 beating half a dozen brand new cars in that era
