  • GTI front end over-rated?

    My opinion is that the GTI front end it too radical and will not be either timeless or classic like other GTI models, and infact that the standar MKV front end is more likely to be the one that survives the test of time.

    Some research to support my case;

    Is this more timeless;

    than this?;

          MkV front isnt as timeless as MkI or MkII...no chance...however i think that the photo you chose isnt a good representation of the MkV...Red doesnt show off the red stripe which for me defines it.

          I still think MkV looks awesome front on, its best angle by far in my opinion.

            Change the badging ...

            ... on the front end of a GL and it could be any Honda, Toyota , etc. No one mistakes the GTI for anything other than a VW GTI IMHO.

            Cheers,
            Dave

              I think the Golf GT has a nicer front end than the GTI. Although the honeycomb grille is pretty distinctive, I do think it does seem a little 'over the top' when paired with certain colours (red foremost amongst them IMO). It looks a lot better paired with Candy White, Black or Silver.

              I do prefer the GTI honeycomb over the chromed 'bling' that is the R32 front end, though.

                Quite agree about the Bling on the R32. Maybe it would look a bit better like this:

                  I've got to be honest, I love the GTI front and if I could afford it I'd put one on my TDI tomorrow! (Colour code it too.)

                  Having said that, I have to admit that the design will date. It will always be distinctive however the TDI/FSI front is much more enduring to fashion changes.

                    soon we will see kits made for the mk4 to make it a mk5 gti look...

                        I actually agree with mikinoz that the GTI front end is a bit too radical. The Audi-esque black middle section and honeycombe grille was just too different to what the previous generations looked like. The blacked out chrome grille that DaveMack has up would be what I would've imagined it to be like!

                          Definitely for me, the GTI face.
                          I think its distinctive, unique and most definitely will stand the test of time in several years time come resale.

                            i kinda think its nice that they have differentiated them from the standard models. mk3 and mk4 gti efforts were pretty poor in my book. not that they are ugly cars. they are nice.. just they dont look much different to your regular poverty pack golf
