Actually, when I had my Polo GTI in for its $15k service, come payment time it was about $100 more than I was quoted over the phone. I questioned this and told them that I was quoted $x over the phone and they did a little check and said that I was quoted the regular Polo service cost. They re-printed my invoice and gave me the ~$100 discount.

But yeah, I think it's in bad faith to be quoted $750 it to end up being $1,339.

I just did a check on line fore 60,000km service with out DSG and most were less than $400 of cause the DSG will just about double that i suppose? In my area.for a 2.ltr GT diesel

I looked on another forum and this is what a person from melbourne was quoted.

      Hi All,
Thought I'd update anyone, with a R32 that lives in Melbourne. I'm up for the 60,000kms service and did some ringing around today and got the following quotes:

      1. Essenden VW Dealership $1233
      2. Volkspower (Burwood) $1300+
      3. Richmond Motors (Services alot of European cars) $995
      4. Balcatta VW Specialist (Richmond) $1100

We have a 2009 Yaris — regular standard services (6 months) are pegged at $130 until the warranty runs out, which in our case will be 2012.

Of course, only time will tell how comprehensive these services are and what they can find to charge extra for — as yet it's only had the first, on which there were no extras.

Yeah - had one in the family for 8 years (a 2001 Echo Sportivo). There are still plenty of things for them to charge extra for, and later on they still have their major services too.

              They're both owned by Inchape.

You've left off parts of the service that must be done at the 60,000kms assuming you're getting it done at 4 years which are items like the brake flush.

The DSG service is at 60,000kms as well, this is not time based so if you're getting the 60,000km/4 year service performed based on time and only have 30,000kms on the car you don't need to get the DSG service performed.

Same with the brake fluid change, this has to be performed every 2 years irrespective of kms so even if you're having the 45,000km/3 year service performed at 2 years you have to do the brake fluid.

All this is detailed in the manual in the glovebox.

And it will certainly affect both resale value and the willingness of the 'gouged' to come back for another go....
I don't follow your logic, there are specific jobs that have to be performed to maintain the car and Volkswagen doesn't just "invent" maintenance to make themselves money. Take a look at the service costs over 6 years for many cars and compare those to the Golf and the Golf will be in front, now look at the servicing costs for the performance cars from other makers and compare those to the GTI/R32 and once again you'll see that the GTI/R32 will be in front in most cases. And take a look at repair costs in an accident which influences your insurance costs.

As coreying said other makers force you to do 6 monthly servicing and if you value your time there is a cost on top of that to take the car in and pick it up.

Ï don't see how this can affect resale or future sales of the marque, I didn't buy a GTI because servicing was cheap or anything else like that but because it was the best all round car that suited me that was reasonably priced for what you get, had reasonable insurance and servicing costs and so on. My outback H6 luxury cost me more in servicing in five years than the GTI will but after owning the GTI I'll never go back to a Subaru and it's not because of servicing costs.

Volkswagen Australia and the dealers do make up the prices of the parts and equipment though!
Look at what VWA make you pay for a set of coil packs for the R32 and then look at what you can get them for from overseas. You can get all six shipped from the US for the price that VWA want for one. Front brake rotors, you can get two shipped from the US for less than what VWA want for the price of one. Yes we're a smaller market and specific markets have their own pricing structure with Germany but I'll still wager good money on the fact that VW are making an absolute killing on all their parts.
It's not exclusive to VW though pretty much all the Euro makes do it, but VAG do seem to be taking it to excess here in regards to this service at least.

Yes you come out ahead due to the yearly service but I still don't think that the costs involved on this service are over inflated, this is confirmed furthermore by the discrepancies in quotes that are being given out by different dealers.

                    Cheers,

                      FWIW, I thought I'd break down the 3 components of my 60K/4 year service. They are as follows;

                      4 years / 60k full service.
                      Labour $215.00, parts $397.00 = total $612.00

                      Timing belt and related componentry.
                      Labour $308.00, parts $695.00 = total $1003.00

                      DSG service.
                      Labour $132.00, parts $232.00 = total $364.00

My previous car, 2001 WRX was <$300 for minor services and $830 for the major including timing belt. That's at Eblen in Adelaide. Where is your information from? That's crazy if people are paying double that for an Impreza....

Yes but that's $300 every six months, instead of $400 every 12 months.
                            2 x 300 = $600, 1 x 400 = $400 - hence the Golf is cheaper...

I've already stated that my information comes from Car Service, Mechanics, Auto Services, Car Repair, Auto Repairs and that they get it from the prices the dealers and service agents quote for a particular brand and model in area that you specify...

No this is not right. My 06 Forester XT is nearing 200,000km and has only had regular 12,500km services from subaru dealers and it has never had services costing that. The biggest one was the 125,000km with the cam belt change that cost $756. Ordinary services cost just over $200 while every 50,000 they were arond $550 with gearbox/diff oil, brake fluid etc. It has cost me a total of $4307 for all servicing up to 196,000km and has not had one warranty claim. It doesn't use any oil. I hope our 90TSI we are about to get can match that.

Wel... you should maybe complain to Subaru that the average quoted price of their services is wrong so that when carservices.com.au do their updates, it indicates what you're saying...
