  • Got it!! (GTI)

    hi all

finally got my 2008 3-door GTI with DSG today!

Nice! Never realised there was so much computer customisation on these! Plan to spend the weekend setting it up.

Was dissappointed by the DSG being very jerky when moving slowly. Searching the net seems to show some people saying it's normal, while others saying it needs to be software updated and/or mechatronics replaced!

Got it in Graphite Blue with the dark leather interior...

    Congrats and welcome.
How bad is the jerk when moving slowly?

the jerkiness is enough to feel like you're being thrown back and forwards...if you know what i mean.

Like a learner driver on a manual gearbox!

I'm sure I'd driven another DSG and didn't feel this. I didn't get to drive my car before buying (auction)

      cheers

        Well done

May just need a reset. Get a dealer service and update check.

That is certainly not normal behaviour. Both my Golfs (with DSG) don't do that. Like Bazzle has said - I'd get it checked out by the dealer asap - being an 08 model - it should still be under warranty.

Hey, I just picked up a 2008 Graphite Blue GTI too Except mine is a 5 door
The jerkiness that you're referring to is definitely not normal. The previous owner experienced the same problem. Dealer reflashed the Mechatronics software and it's running real smooth now

wow.... your car sounds very much as mine.
Also, MY08 3drs DSG Deep deep deep blue with leather and picked up few weeks ago.
                lol

the DSG is not as smooth as general Auto. but if u put in mind, it's a manual with electronic controlled. That may give u some idea the feeling when slow. but the shifting is unbeatable.

                  hi all

the DSG definetely has problems on mine. It seems to be when the car is hot and then driven (ie..not so bad first thing in the morning). It bucks like a mule at low speed!

Took it into the dealer who confirmed there was a problem within 2 seconds of reversing the car!

In D mode it seems to get to 5th or 6th gear very quickly.... Is that a function of the 'economy' mode?

They do shift earlier/sooner than most AT to achieve economy.
If u drive normal, your rev dont really has a chance to hit 2500rpm.
Therefore, when u in traffic, slow down and speed up slowly without (auto)down shifting, u'd feel it like MT with wrong gear.
