    I just bought a Golf V 2008/2009 privately the car has only done 38,000KM but the owner can't find the other key, i rang penrith VW and was told a new key will cost $398 plus another $55 to program the key, has any one Else had a new key recently and what did it cost thanks

    Just got a quote from Penrith Vw for a new flip key and was given a price of $398 plus $55 for programing does that seem right to you thanks

      Sounds about right. They're not cheap, mainly due to the fact that they're ordered off the VIN number. This means they come pre-cut, ready to be programmed. Also, expect anywhere between 7-14 working days from the time it's ordered to the time it turns up at your dealer, as the key will be coming from Singapore.

        They're not cheap and that price sounds about right as Umai Naa!! has said. You can buy the fobs with a blank key off eBay but they don't have the transponder fitted (this is the small chip inside the key fob which disarms the immobiliser and allows you start the car). however once the blank key is cut from your original it will still allow you open the door and at least be able to get into the car should you happen to lock the keys in. Congrats. on the purchase by the way and trust you enjoy it :>)
