  • Lifting the wipers?

Might be a stupid question but how the hell do I lift up the windscreen wipers? They seem to be tucked in well under the bonnet so when I go to lift them they hit the bonnet.

Nifty feature that... My wipers are always left down when people go through and do that at work

Yeah.. reading the manual will shed some light. But have you ever come across roadside windscreen-washer hippies that try to clean your windscreen for a gold coin even though you say "no thanks" with a big smile on your face hoping that they don't touch your car? Yup it happened to me, and he tried to lift the wipers. perhaps they should RTFM too.

I would love too but what if they beat you up and drive away in your car? not worth imo. 80grand????? thats like 220 bucks a day, means they to swipe like 220 times a day.

This doesn't work as Mk5 golfs have retained accessory power ofter you turn the ignition off.

Another method is to operate the wipers and when they reach the top, open the bonnet. The wipers don't work with the bonnet open so they'll stop.

The following is a post reply to the same question asked on the Golf MKV forum.

Ignition OFF -> On -> Off (but don't start it)
Pull Wiper arm down to 'single wipe' briefly let go.

                  Up they come.

PS: Don't open your bonnet while the arms are up or you'll lose some paint.

                  To put them down
Ignition On (or started), pull wiper arm down.

As it turns out i was wrong, seems the figure is much closer to $250,000 per year. See for yourself, YouTube - Hamish and Andy's Real Stories: Window Washers

at risk of sounding like a complete idiot (which i am for the following reason....) DON'T do what i did:

blades up (as explained already by tapping the wiper stalk after turning off ignition without removing the key) then tilted to wash and chamois "shammy"... while finishing off wash n detail with some interior work i decided to turn on the radio... no prizes for guessing what i did before the alarm bell in my head could do anything about it.

tapped the wiper stalk (while wipers were still in lifted position) and they tried to return to passive position--> and chunked into edge of bonnet on way down..... DAMMIT!

                              Exactly my point!!! Well said.
The attitude of some people makes me want to vomit, most threads have different ideas and experiences so it is fine to ask the question, if you don't have the time for someone.... just don't bloody reply.

As for the wipers, I did not know how to keep them down so this thread taught me something, guess I better RTFM!
