  • 120K service on a Mk5 Golf 2.0 TDI

    Hi all,

My car is coming close to its 120K service. Has anyone here had a 120K service yet for a 2.0 TDI? I read the manual and from what I can work out it seems that the timing belt needs to be changed. Ti sounds like it will be a very expensive service.

Just wondering if anyone knows what is involved and a ball park figure what I might be paying?

    Thanks in advance.

It is a big service. If it's a DSG-equipped car, you'll be up for more.

Typically, you'll be replacing the engine oil, sump plug, oil filter, fuel filter, timing belt kit, DSG oil and filter, and probably brake fluid. Also, if the car hasn't had a set of pads and rotors yet, it'll probably need those, too.

I did one for a customer the other day (at a dealership) at a cost of around $1100. This will vary depending on the labour rate.

Funnily enough I just had my 120k service last week.
Cost me just over $700 but I didn't have the timing belt changed, this was done at 105k. That service was close to $1300.
Because my driving is all highway I've had very little wear and tear on the brakes/rotors etc so it's just the basic service as Umai Naa described. The only other extra was the removal/replacement of the rcd300 to a new rcd510 but that was only about $80 worth.
I don't use the dealer for my servicing, got a top bloke on the Gold Coast, Adam @ VA Garage who know his stuff.
Oh, and I don't have the DSG.
      Hope this helps.

Do you get any vibrations through the clutch on your 2.0 tdi.

Sometimes when cold...to me it sounds like the thrust bearing.

Got a quote to do the belt only for $850. It will cost worst case $1350 to do all the belts and pulleys etc if they all need changing.

No, don't have any issues like that.
