  • Engine mounts, transmission mount and pendulem mounts

Has any one experience with replacement of all these mounts? The MKV GTI is famous for shocking axle tramp and sloppy engine movement and since I have S2 upgrades I am looking at replacing my mounts. May be harsher but should be well worth it due to a more direct connection between driveline, engine and driver.
I understand the engine vibrations/ noise will be increased but how much?
Any experience from anyone using BSH or VF mounts?

    Hey Adzy
i have all three VF mounts.
the car vibrates alot. and it drones around 2k rpm. thats when its most annoying.
but they do soften up and aren't quite as bad as when you first start the car.

if you want you can sit in my car and take if for a spin if this is the path you want to go down.

      Oh cheers bro,

Have you noticed a bit of a reduction in axle tramp? It sounds as though (from talking to a couple of reputable mechanics) that I wont be able to eliminate the axle tramp but it can be reduced - castor bushes, overcoils, sub frame etc..

axle tramp has been reduced. i also installed WALK.
overall i would say it has reduced it at least 50%.
coil overs will help further again.

there are a couple of BSH reviews here BSH Engine Mounts Review Update 2/12/09 page 3

BFI have also released a stealthline option designed for people who dont want excessive vibration. The problem there is that you sacrifice performance for comfort. Some people think theyre too soft for a "performance" mount.

Cheers Tim, you know much about that BSH pendulum mount you stock? If I put that it would it be an issue with standard engine mounts?

I was running that with stock engine mounts on my old GTI and she was pretty much rock solid. If you look at the layout of the mounts it is the pendulum one that stops most of the rocking. On my car I felt a significant upgrade over just the TAI. Mine was a manual though which in my opinion benefits more than the DSG.

Ive sold heaps of them without a complain so far. Only a few people I know of have been daring enough to go the full mount set. Theyre a bit of a niche market product given the NVH drawbacks.

Given you have an underlying problem somewhere it is hard to comment on your situation though. The standard mounts are quite poor so if you have had excessive engine movement for some time this could potentially have destroyed them pretty quickly.

I have the TAI and I can feel a little more connection/ less slop; but still get some evil ass axle tramp. I may just go the pendulum first up and see how I go, sounds good.

I know there will be some NVH but that sort of stuff gets me hard as it just adds communication and feel to the drive when you are pushing it

The pendulum mount is pretty comfy actually. Just adds a solid feel to the drivetrain. Not really any more vibration than with just the TAI.

Nice! Design looks worlds apart to standard too.
