I can flog my bog standard S3 around wakefield in 1:12

I would expect the Golf R to get around in a 1:11-1:12 in the hands of a professional driver. Those numbers dont seem right to me.

Even if it was a wet track you take away 4 seconds... which is still way off what is actually recorded
Yeah, the track surface was wet. You must be a far better driver than Nathan Ponchard

Don't really see the point of posting lap times if you can't directly compare them to others.
If it's p*****g down, come back another day.Otherwise, the information you publish is useless.
Also Robby,a wet track at Wakefield adds a lot more than four seconds!
I was at Wakefield last week when Luffy tested the Golf R.
Let's just say that the lap time was.......impressive.
    Cheers

True, I love comparing lap times to other cars and it is crap when you see figures from a wet track but I guess they are relying on car company's supplying the press cars.. it is winter too.
They are only comparative to each other for that given day obviously.

What do stock R32's do around Wakefield?

What it does show though, since the Evo X and R were tested on the same day under the same conditions, is just how close the two cars are.
If it weren't for VW "detuning the R due to Australia's heat", or to protect the sales of the Audi S3 and TT-S - whichever theory you subscribe to, the Golf R may have actually beaten the Evo X in all the stats except the lap time, which itself probably would've been much closer than 1 second.

errr whats nathan ponchard got to do with this ??? and im not entirely sure what direction your heading with that comment about me being a far better driver than nathan ponchard. I dont claim to be a great driver. Far from it??? I stated a fact. I can drive around wakefield in my S3 bog standard 1:12. Macca knows who I am in real life and he knows the lap times i can post. So your jibe is in reference to????????

Its kinda obvious for me to scratch my head and go why does it take a 1:19 for a golf r to get around the track if a hack like me can do a 1:12. I dont exactly have my copy of motor mag yet.. so i have no idea why the times were so crap... thanks to some clown stealing my copy from my letter box hence me having to go to the newsagent to get my copy tomorrow.

" What are you smoking mate? You might want to venture down to your local newsagency and have a read of the latest edition of MOTOR magazine. There's a comparison between the evo 10 and the golf R and there was'nt much in it . Zero to 100 times and 1/4 mile times were almost identical and from memory there was less than a second difference in lap times.
Both the R32 and the Golf R are excellent cars in their own right, each to their own. One thing is for sure, the Golf R represents awesome value for money. I for one thank VW for bringing us such a great car for such a good price!
I haven't 'ventured down to the local newsagency' to read that rag since I was 15; about the point at which I sought an alternative, displaying at least some degree of literary prowess and some genuine experience with European vehicles

Might I suggest you drive the cars yourself anyway. This tends to work better than reading others' reviews and using these as the foundation of an argument!

Take note, also, of the fact that there's rather a lot more to the driving experience than the performance figures.

Anyway, I don't intend to turn this into an argument, or portray the notion that I would buy an EVO over an R, because I wouldn't. I merely thought it valuable to point out that the EVO is still a better thing to steer and that the R is none too different now that it has merely followed 'engine suit'.
