Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Footrest in GTI just plastic?!?

Our new GTI does not have an alloy plate over the footrest (much like the alloy brake and accelerator pedals) - it's just plastic. I've noticed in plenty of overseas model pics that the footrest is alloy. What about other GTI owners out there... plastic or alloy?

LHD and RHD are different, I've tried to source one for the R32 (which is also plastic) and as far as I can find out there isn't a RHD one available anywhere.

Don't think so - have a look at www.tmtuning.com, follow: "VW -> interior -> floor / pedals", then look at the OEM MK5 GTI pedal option. If you look through the list there they only list a LHD "dead pedal" and no RHD one. You can also try looking at www.1stvwparts.com, but thats US VW based, so they may only stock LHD parts.

AFAIK alloy footrests have never been included on RHD cars delivered to Australia. Including all Mk4s and Mk5s.

I think that the 2007 build model went to a plastic foot rest. Yeah I know it was a backwards step

Those crazy Japanese seem obsessed with ignition barrel bezels... and other crazy things as well. Have a look around in the above links.
