Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What $5000 for mods for 2008 mkv GTI..?

Im looking at throwing $5k in mods to a stock 08 GTI DSG 5dr to equal or better the new Scirocco R. Only catch is it still needs to be perfectly drivable as a daily..

Any advice will be greatly appreciated gentleman...

      see my posy on MKV.

      basically
      springs/shocks
      rear sway bar
      anti lift kit
      slotted front rotors/new pads
      torque arm insert

Once your have sorted the handling then play with the engine
      Downpipe, intake, ecu flash

This will give you a balanced car, and not just outright power.

Fuel pump and intercooler can come later with the next 5k, which will include new light weight rims.

Equal or better? Whats the criteria for equal or better? Handling, braking, horsepower, reduced weight?

If you combine what Big Yellow and Isaw have suggested you will have a complete package that would be an awesome car for track days, weekend blasts and the daily comute.

I have spent under $5k on mine but suspension is now a weakness due to the power increase.

          $1500, quality tune
$500, mods to support tune (eg intake)
          $3000, good coilovers and tyres.

You could easily blow $5k on the power or handling, if you want all round performance, don't forget some good rubber (its the only thing that keeps you in contact with the road).

5k wont get you far.. particularly if you are looking for well known brand names.

The first 5k I spent was:
TBE / CAI / Stage 2 tune / Diverter valve

The next 5k I spent was:
Intercooler / HPFP / Stage 2+ tune / Catch can / DSG remap / Engine mount Insert / Boost gauge

If I was to spend another 5k:
coilovers / anti lift kit / sway bars / new set of engine mounts

Then would come a big turbo upgrade.. but I just bought a k9 gsxr750 instead

Sold my bikes had too many close calls from ppl on our roads who have no F'n regard for any one else on the road.

Mine is white - with r55 yoshi pipe (the best looking pipe you can get for the k9), fender elim and black tinted screen.

ive had a couple close calls, but then when you pull up next to them and leave a nice boot print in their doors

Hell yeah, nice.. your bike must look sick.

A foot in their door works well or a snapped side view mirror.. following them home is always good for a laugh!
