  • RCD510 Upgrade

    Hey guys,

I Used to post on here a bit back in 07 when I had a Polo GTI. Upgraded to a golf last year and absolutely loving it.

I've just found myself an RCD510 head unit off ebay. I've read about people having issues with batteries being drained etc. Will this occur in an '08 model???
If not, how complex is the installation? Is it just plug and play, or am I going to require adapters etc?
Bit hesitant to pull apart the dash myself..

    Congrats on your purchase.

From memory, I think you need a CANBUS that is L revision or higher. Apparently if you have a MY08 model, you should have at least an L version, but it probably pays to check it out with Vagcom.

As to plug and play, I think it should be straight forward. I can't tell you if you need to reprogram via Vagcom or not afterwards. Perhaps you should PM Maverick for an answer to this.

I attach his webpage here regarding battery drain issue for your reference.
