Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Missing service (15000k)

    Hi,

I am looking for a used Golf FSI, and found one 2007 Golf comfortline Gen V FSI 1.6, low ks, everything looks good, but when i looked at the logbook, there is a missing service between 5,000km and 30,000km service, the gap is about 1 year 10 months. Can anyone advice how bad it is? will this affect the engine or gearbox?

    really appreciate any advice.

    Sunny

was it actually carried out? where i get mine serviced they forgot to once. i went back and got it stamped but. can happen tho. For a young engine id personaly prefer to not miss it, but there is talk of extended service intervals of 30,000 depending on operating conditions. However ive never had that option, i might have to on my next one tho.

You cannot run extended servicing in Australia. The conditions in this country are regarded as severe by Volkswagen.

Ask them about it. If they can't produce the service invoice (and I'd make sure you take a copy) I'd walk away as they haven't looked after the car.

the service record is Sep 2008 - 5000k service(1 year), may 2010(25k,3rd year) service
The 15,000 km service is missing, isn't it? (althought the owner insisted that there is no missing service???)

            The service intervals are

            15,000km OR 12 months
            30,000km OR 24 months
            45,000km OR 36 months

It may not be too big a deal but you would have wonder what else they neglected. If the car was serviced they should be able to tell you what dealer and you can check. Any dealer should be able to tell you if the scheduled services have been done however.

Even if they can't produce the invoice they could at least tell you where it was done.
You could then verify with the centre. Most places, even non-dealers, would keep client service records.

If it's that they insist that having just the 5k & 25k services 20 months apart were adequate & proper... well, I'd walk.

20k doesn't seem that much more than the 15k interval. But it's the 1 yr 10 m interval I'd be more concerned about.
Contaminants and acids in the oil for all that time. And the oil additives will have worn out long ago.
If it was 20k in 12 months, that might not be so bad.

I would probably walk anyway. There must be better examples out there.

AFAIK there is no 5,000 k service, as above.
                  But you have one.
Is it just a humungous typo?
Servicing person wipes grease off knuckles and writes five instead of fifteen?
                  Give em a call.

It doesn't explain the 1 year and 10 months between the two services.

The service intervals are 15,000km or 12 months as well so the 5,000km one sounds like it was the first service at 12 months.

If it were performed by a Volkswagen dealer it would be online and other dealers can see the service history.

Thanks for all the valuable input. I gave up the one because the owner is not happy, she don't want to explain why there is 1 year 10 months gap, it may not be a big deal, but for a three year car just out of warranty, it is a unacceptable risk for me.
