Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • lots of smoke....no power...

guys on behalf of a friend.
last week the light on dash turned on for the Air FLow meter. he took it off and cleaned it with spray and reset it...after a couple of hours it came back but the car was not pulling as usual and quite a bit of black smoke coming out of exhaust. he put another 2nd hand AFM he had in garage and reset the fault but after a few hours still came back and still not pulling right.

so ordered a new one. light was off for 2 days but it then came back on....
the car is not pulling hard as usual....he can press the pedal all the way down but the car accelerated slowly and lots of black smoke out the back.....

any ideas?? its a 2007 1.9 TDI... cheers

someone on another forums suggested maybe clogged DPF...

Yep lots of smoke then not enough air, check your intercooler hoses for security, the air to diesel match is wrong, also it isnt pulling would indicate to me an intercooler hose has dislodged itself. Had a 1.9 do that for me was the lower hose.
If the DPF was clogged would be hard to be exhausting gases surely
You confidently say air flow meter, have you got codes??

How can it be a clogged DPF? The first VW with DPF was the GT Sport TDI IIRC with the 125kw 2.0 from MY08 onwards.

Thats correct so moving along back to lack of air mate, check your intercooler hoses
