On cold mornings or cold start-ups, I tend to drive at a moderate pace (few kms) until the engine hits operating temmperature before accelerating hard (harder), so that oils and metal bits have a bit of heat in them to avoid unnecessary stress on components.

1. It's not wierd to name your car. Mine is called Madam Jetta. There's a whole thread on this phenomenon in the MK3 section.
2. The single ding while cruising is most likely the speed warning. The seat belt warning dings as soon as you take off and doesn't stop till you remove the bag or do up the seat belt. I set my speed warning at 120kmh. Any slower and it will constantly ding. I figure if going 120 on a Sydney road I should probably slow down. Check the speed it's set at and adjust it to suit your driving style and risk profile ..... or just slow down!!
