  • Snowflake symbol appears on MFD when outside temp hit 4 Deg C.

My GT beeped/dinged once and the MFD displayed a snowflake symbol next to the outside temp display this morning it registered 4 Deg C. What is the significance of that? I checked the manual but could not find anything about it.

Anyone know what the symbol is there for apart from telling me that it was bloody cold this morning? Something I already knew.

Always get this question around this time of year! I think it warns you once it hits 4 deg that the roads may be icy etc.

              HAHA too true!

Anyone know why the car will occasionally make a single ding when cruising along motor ways. I put it down the temperature change but then it proved me wrong. Nothing comes up on display either.

Still appears up here in Brisbane. Still gets bloody cold too. I miss heated seats.

Do you have a bag on the passenger seat?

                      Is it a speed warning?

Yeh, suppose you can call my friend that lol.

We only really ever heard it when traversing to F3 late at night, temp around 17 so I dunno....

                          Hi all,

This morning it was +1 degrees in Perth (yes, it's not all sunshine and wet t-shirts over here ), and even though it was +7 in the garage when I started the car, when I went outside it dropped to +2 and of course it went "ding" once the temp gone below +4.

The question is: Do I need to do anything in "driving sense" to my Golf?
Do I need to drive it slower without overreving the engine above 2000rpm?
Or do I need to let it warm up before driving? (even though I read that all modern cars don't need warming up anymore: just sit and drive )
Feel a little bit cautious about wrecking the engine (it has 1600km on it).
I read about breaking in the engine, so I drove without overdoing it for the first 1000km, then closer to 1500km I began overreving the car, letting it go up to 4000rpm on the gear change. Hope I'm doing it right.

                          Thanks for advise.
