Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Location of External temp sensor

    Hi all,

About a month ago my mkV GTI was involved in an accident (not my fault) and there was some damage to the front passenger side area in the headlight region. I picked up my car today and the external temperature reading on the dash no longer has a reading, just a '--'. Now I've fiddled around to make sure it's not just a display setting and searched the forum to make sure this topic hasn't been covered. Considering I have read that the sensor may be at the front of the car and it just so happens this coincides with the car being repaired I suspect the sensor has been smashed or not reconnected. Does anyone know where this is located or if this is simply a setting I'm missing?

On another topic the passenger side door does not unlock most of the time with the remote anymore but funny enough it will open with the unlock button on the drivers door 100% of the time. I would have thought it was all controlled the same way.

And no I'm afraid there are no pics

Nevermind, found it. It's behind the main grille off to the left side and it's unplugged.
