    Hi need some advice

    I have a 2006 Jetta with 2.0 103kw TDI

Everything was excellent almost 4yo just had 60K service. Was told cam belt and tensioner due at 4 years or 105K. Discussed that the "book" says 120K no time rating.

Got the belt and tensioner changed last week now hip pocket is $800 lighter. Over the last week notice a lot of smoke. On the weekend noticed smoke drifting past our car at stop lights etc - the other cars behind had a huge plume of smoke engulf them as I drove off.

Rang the dealer this morning and was told earliest they could check the car was about 2 weeks - no loan cars available. I pointed out my expectation was today or tomorrow - the service manager was very obliging and they checked the car today.

They found the new tensioner had failed?? and the engine was overfueling. They replaced the tensioner. Still a lot of smoke but will probably come good in a few days?? They were adamant that the timing was still good but could not explain why it would overfuel.

They confirmed the engine is an interference - I am sure that is why the timing was still spot on ??
But why is it still smoking and why will it just come good in a few days

    Any ideas??

Sounds like the timing is late ( retarded ), and as it's PD mechanical injection, it's injecting late. Late injection of diesel causes smoke, but so too if it is indeed overfuelling all over, would have the same result. Is the fuel economy worse? Late injection should use similar fuel, total overfuelling should use a whole lot more. That sucks mate, and I'd keep onto the dealer as it went in fine and has come out not so!

      Thanks Greg

I will be back onto them today. They have been very helpful - but I just want it fixed. It's a bloody embarrassment driving it around at the moment.

Do you think it will just "come good". As you have pointed out the fuelling issues are mechanical and won't just change by themselves unless there is really something VERY wrong.

      cheers Macca

Now I'm really scared. The dealer has had the car all day and just rang - they want to check the turbo tomorrow.
