  • Where did everybody buy their Vag-Com cables

Just wondering aside from buying direct from Ross-Tech in USA, where did people buy their vagcom cables? Sure it seems cheaper to buy from Ross-Tech but I'd rather support the Aussie Distributor if the price difference is not too much. Any pointer guys?

direct from Ross Tech - both cheaper and faster delivery than from Aus distributor 10 months ago.

they are available direct from the dubaddiction website and ship via express post as soon as payment clears. So shipping takes 24 hours to most people. We source the product direct from the major local distributor Eurospeed. Pricing is similar as if you were to source it direct from Ross-tech. Maybe a little more because we have to pay GST

Hi Tim, just a few questions before i buy...

I know if you were to buy from Ross-tech, you will get support from them, what happens if I buy through you? Do I get support through you or Ross-tech or both? Would Ross-tech have a register that i can register the cable to as the owner of the cable and licence for the software?

With regards to the Hex-USB+Can, will it have more function versus the Micro-CAN if one is to only use it on a Mk5 golf as in my case the R32? And if it does, what other functions are there?

I read from the Ross-tech website that its compatible with XP/Vista platform. I run Windows 7 64bit. Is it compatible?

Thank you kindly in anticipation for the above queries

                  Some answers for you.

Ross-Tech don't record who owns the cables sold. If you are using a real cable, you can use the latest and greatest version of the software, which is also free for anyone to download.

If you need support of a technical nature, Andy at Ross-Tech has always replied to me within 24 or so hours.

The micro-can cable has limitations communicating above the MK5 platform IIRC. The HEX-USB+CAN is the Daddy cable. As I understand it you don't lose functionality, you can't use it on all platforms.

Can't answer your W7 question, I would have thought it would work.

                  Gavin

Buying from the distributors is the same as buying from them (almost). They have a record of what you're purchased and if you want to upgrade it will probably be easier if you have purchased from them.

Ross-Tech have a comparision of the cables that goes into detail. The only real difference is that you get a different sampling rate with the higher end cables if you're only going to use it on the Mark V/VI platform.

Ross-Tech website says Windows 95 through to Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit. I use it on Windows 7 64 bit with no problems. All future betas are going to be 64 bit only and they are going to have a separate 64 bit version starting soon and offer extra features and 64 bit native code.

Version 10 (Still in beta) drops support for Windows 95, 98 and ME. 2000 to 7 only from now on.

                      Hey aristocrat.
Looks like most of your questions have been answered above.

Ross-tech and the forums they host are best equipped to support specific coding enquiries. I am yet to meet a person who knows everything about every model. Having said that we are happy to offer warranty and technical installation support where possible. There is more than enough information online in regards to how to use the thing.
