Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • clutch vibration on 2.0L TDI

    Hello

I have had my recently purchased 2005 2.0L TDI have its flywheel replaced on a product recall, it apparently needed a modified flywheel.

Since then the clutch vibrates a lot, more evident when you only push it down 1 or 2cm, then minor vibration when its pressed to the floor.

I have been told this is normal, but it wasn't doing that in the test drive, previous to the modification.

If anyone else has the same model out there any either does or doesn't have this problem i would like to know.

    Thanks

    Regards
    Adam

That's not normal. Do you get any clutch shudder (i.e. just as the clutch engages when taking off?) They've had to remove the clutch and pressure plates in order to replace the flywheel. I bet any money they've warped the fingers in the pressure plate when refitting it over the clutch. Usually when removing/refitting a pressure plate, the correct procedure is to gradually loosen the bolts in sequence to allow even distribution of the tension in the fingers to ease off/ease back on. I've seen plenty of instances where bolts are fully tightened one at a time, and in the process, stuff the pressure plate. Friggin' retards! Ask if the clutch and pressure plate were replaced as a part of the recall?

That is total and utter bull$%#^#%@.
I have driven plenty of manuals and in no way clutch should vibrate when pedal pressed down.
Has to be something wrong with that. I suggest to take it back and don't leave until it is fixed. I would say that clutch plate is warped somehow hence vibration. Most of the time when you take pressure plate off there is no need to touch it at all unless you need to fiddle with springs in it that pushes clutch against flywheel 'cos sometime they loose their tension
But definitely take it back and don't take No for an answer
