      Me too.
Read what carsguide's Chris Riley has to say wrt to Pirelli vs R32 in the last paragraph of his review.

Test drive: VW Golf GTI Pirelli | Review | carsguide.com.au

What he said was what sold me on the Pirelli. The R32 is great if you have deep pockets otherwise, the Pirelli provides more bang for your buck.

+1. Up to the individual if they need/want the extra power of the pirelli but with that comes more lag.

Probably the next price bracket up... 50k or so for a second hand one..

You have the same turbo lag as the pirelli and the weight of the haldex which makes it a less 'fun' car which takes you back to the GTI if you want a fun car. Plus as G-rig pointed out it's a lot more $$$$.

                Re: Pirelli or r32?

AWD is great for traction and in the wet, but being too planted gets a bit boring compared to something lighter and more nimble. It would take a bit more power to un-settle the R32 and you'll probably find yourself taking corners way too fast in urban areas to get some thrills out of it.

Edit: The GTI still wouldn't be as nimble as a Polo or Megane or 206 GTI etc but still fun.

The Pirelli looks far better than the GTI once you see them in the metal side by side bro, wish my side skirts and bumpers were fully color coded
The Pirelli is a true drivers car as the chassis is far more adjustable mid corner and is more playfull, you will have more smiles per KM with the Pirelli once the road becomes twisty! Ask yoursefl is you are going to do the odd hill climb or track day... then the Pirelli would be the go. Dont forget the Pirelli can be tuned to gain FAR more power than the R32 per dollar.

The R32 does have more character with that gorgous V6 but that heavy iron block over the front axles does give some terminal understeer on the limit. They do look sexy and feel a fair bit classier than a Pirelli but cant be matched for tunability and outright pace. Remember that the Pirelli spanks an R32 in a straight line drag from a roll on as the R32 makes up around 7 tenths on launch due to its AWD.

Take each car on a decent test drive bro.. even make a list of pro's and cons based on what YOU want out of a car as we can sometimes be sidetracked by others opinions.

                    FWD more fun then AWD?

Having the peice of mind i can take corners (considerable speed) in the wet is "fun" to me!

The 3.2L has great torque for daily driving - get it chipped and the response is far greater again

Big Brake Kit on the R is bloody amazing too, although never knew its contrainsts to i took it to the track; and fell in love with the car all over again

Would have better power down, corner entry not so much.

                        Re: Pirelli or r32?

The R32 has nice power when taking off but not that much fun after 3,000rpm.

I had an R32 but didn't get it to hoon around in the wet and once you are sliding or lose it your no better off than anyone else. Dry grip levels are still much better.

I would just get a Normal GTI.

Hell yes, I swore I would never buy a FWD drive car after only having owned RWD/AWD cars and after test driving the GTI I changed my mind. IMO the R32 isn't as responsive, it's isn't as nimble, it's not as fun (no turbo to kick in) and really is a different car.

Having the peice of mind i can take corners (considerable speed) in the wet is "fun" to me!
The GTI isn't that far behind in the wet, grip on takeoff in the wet is really it's biggest downfall which is to be expected but it's lighter with a lot less weight up front. As for corners the R32's front end weight is a negative but it can get the power down easier coming out.

The 3.2L has great torque for daily driving - get it chipped and the response is far greater again
A chipped GTI has more torque than a chipped R32 and a better power to weight ratio. I'm not sure I would say the different between a chipped R32 and stock is "far greater again" when you look at what you get with a chipped GTI, the difference isn't that great on the R32.

Big Brake Kit on the R is bloody amazing too, although never knew its contrainsts to i took it to the track; and fell in love with the car all over again
Big brake kit would do the same on the GTI.

The cars are different but there is no doubt the GTI is a lot more fun to drive, the R32 is a different car and just doesn't have the same feel about it. I'm not dismissing the R32 at all as it's a great car but for a daily driver and all round great car the GTI is the pick of the three (GTI, Pirelli and R32).

ok agree with alot of the above. the GTI is more efficient. more power less fuel. its 'the smarter car'. the r32 is fat looking with presence (top of the range golf).

One of each would be good ideally.
