Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • High pitched squeal

As of this afternoon, my 08 GTI DSG has started making an odd noise (i normally hate these sorts of vague posts). With the engine warm, If you come off the throttle and the car coasts, there is a high pitched squeal coming from the engine bay. It hasn't lost any boost pressure, there is no problem with the gears as it changes up or down, but as soon as you come off the throttle, it squeals for a good 3 -4 seconds, then quietens down. It sounds vaguely like a noisy waterpump.

The aircon is off, I've even slipped it into neutral while rolling and the sound persists.

No lights showing up on the dash, everything else is normal.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Fortunately it's still under warranty and the sound is consistent.

Acessory belt tensioner? My VR6 used to squeal like a stuck pig when the car was cold, or at high RPM shifts every once in a while until I changed the acessory belt tensioner assembly.

Check that your diverter valve is tightly bolted on.. could have a miniscule air leak.

Also, make sure that you check under the car and between the engine and firewall for small children.

Car is going in for interval service, checked with mech, it's the breather valve. Replacement part on order.
