Golf 2.0 TDI mods

Hi

I finally own my own first car. A 2005 Golf 2.0 TDI

Unfortunately the dealership loaned me a DSG for the weekend before getting and after getting into the manual and beening told that the gears are further apart it feels sluggish.

What in-expensive things can i do to get a little more power that i'll do after the warranty runs out or that wont void the warranty?

I dont really want to sacrafice fuel economy though

I have been told that if i spend less that $2500 on a chip i can have problems like starting issues, mid range touque issues, and turbo failing issues (seen in chips like Revo). Is this true?

Can i do anything to the air intake that will make a difference?

I will post photos up here over the weekend so everyone can have a look.

Is what i've been told regarging starting issues, mid range touque issues, bucking (not sure what that is) and turbo failing issues true on chips under $2500

I've been running DP chips in both Golf V TDI and Multivan for twelve months now. Midrange Torque is fantastic. The limitation is now in the ability of the car to get the power on the road. A better link that provides more information is:

Chips - Dragon Performance UK

I have a little experience with a Dragon Performance device ( for want of a better description ), cost in the UK from their website is approx. $600 Au. plus postage.

A bloke who had sold his Mk5 Golf and now driving a Bora, which also has one of these little boxes fitted let me in on the experience. His was fitted for just over 12 months before he sold the car - absolutely no problem with the device.

Easy to fit, takes approx 25 minutes, even though they claim 5 minutes on the website. Plugs straight into the stock wiring loom, easy to find power for the unit, the fuse box being the obvious place and a decent earth is next to the air cleaner box. He also bought the optional weather proof bag and a K&N air cleaner element, both good items which work well. There is no extra induction noise with the K&N, or if there is it is only when the throttle is pressed way into the floor !

Power, torque increase is there in very large lumps !
To be super critical nit picky there is a slight surge at 1600rpm on a very light throttle, also at 2100, though barely noticeable. This is only apparent in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. On a constant throttle at exactly those rpms there is nothing. in the three higher gears it is not noticeable at all.
So all in all I would call it a minor thing which is easily liveable.

The DP chip is $1320, the Oettinger is $2000 - makes the DragOn Performance jobbie good value for money.
