Engine oil for my Mk5 Golf TDI

Hi Fellas,

i`m new to this web site and after reading few comments,really like it.Always good to hear some recomendations.
I bought my Golf 2.0 TDI DSG 06 model couple months ago.Never own the Golf before,but always want one and really like it.Small but solid and nice to drive.

I always did the usual service at home in my garage.Change the oil,filter and check few thinks to make sure the car is happy,but always did it on the petrol cars.Last one Magna Sport 02.
Now i have my first diesel car and not sure what to do.VW dealer quote me $220 just for changing oil and filter + you have take the car over there in the morning and than call 5 times before they confirm the car is ready and all is day gooone.
I`m searching for good mechanic in the area where we live (Narellan Vale 2567) who can look after my car and do a good job.( any suggestions?)

But would like to do the simple thinks my self,like changing the oil and the filter,but not sure what is the best oil for my car.And if doing it my self on a diesel engine is a really good idea?Golf done 90000km.
I drive long distance(90-100km a day) to work and back so the diesel engine gets a good work out on M5.
I prefer to pay few more $ for a good oil than use some cheap s... but not sure whats the best.

Anyone have any suggestions please.

Changing oil is changing oil. Petrol, Diesel makes no difference. Diesel oil typically goes black a lot quicker due to soot in the blowby gas.

You should be able to buy suitable oil and a filter for about $100 total direct from VW themselves. Failing that you can get the filter from VW( which is sub $20 ) and some suitable oil from Supercheap etc, Penrite for example do a good one, but so long as it meets the 503 / 507 ( or is it 504? ) recommendation from VW you're set in a TDI. You'll also need a 32mm socket, and to undo the filter housing from the top, which is different to your typical oil filter.



You basically have to run specific diesel sec oil due to the mechanical injection. The injectors run off their own cam, and it's under immense load, so it requires some pretty trick oil.

Your diesel will supposedly run happily on either 505.01 OR 504.00/507.00 spec oil.

I use Motul 8100 X-Clean (5w-40) a 505.01 oil (medium saps).
My recommendation: get a genuine oil filter - made by perflux.

Can get Shell Penrite etc that is approved by VW at repco now.

Expect to pay about $75 odd for the oil, $20 for the filter.
Remember to change the fuel filter every 30K as well.
