  • Inner door panel red lights.

    Guy's .

What looks like red lights on the inside door panels, are they suppose to work at night??
Never taken much notice of them before and have not been able to get them to light up.
I thought they would light up showing other drivers passing bye you have your door open at night.

    Sadly not on the mkV.
There is no wiring or globe in there.

Yeah I don't think they are designed to light up by themselves. They're just reflectors which would serve the purpose you've described - lighting up when other cars approach you when you have the door open at night.

Yeah they are just a couple of crappy bicycle reflecters glued in .. Its funny how you miss these little things when you dont have them.

Some early 05's had the lamps in there buy they were decontented to save money.

If you have the correct door controller, you can retrofit the lights.

I'd like to do it but never got around to ordering parts from the USA. If anyone decides to, let me know and i'd be in for it.

Thats so so annoying, how much money could they have really saved by cutting the lights out? like $50? I could be keen on it, depends on the complexity?

I have all the parts and will be doing it when I get time. Will also be fitting lighting to the handles and the puddle lights.

Mav, where do you get the parts from? 1stvwparts and world impex don't say anything about international shipping on their websites.

I wanna do these lights and the rear footwell lamps.

I like this idea, no new modules required. Can be done to the door light as in 1st post here, might give it a go.

                      Hi all,

I just finished installing my own puddle lights since buying 2005.5 mirror assemblies is much too costly. The way I did it cost less than 30 bones!

I couldn't find the correct pin on the door control module for the puddle lights (even though it would accept the code via vag-com)... So I just ran my own wire to connect into the footwell light circuit.

I used a 6 LED WHP module from SUPER BRIGHT LEDS - LED Lights & Accessories

Drilled a 1" hole in the lower panel of each mirror,

Epoxy'd a piece of CD_ROM jewel case and Silicone'd the LED behind the lense... (Waterproof)

Got my 'ground' connection by soldering to the ground for heated mirror.

It works wonderfully! They come on any time your footwell lights are on - when unlocking doors, when removing key from ignition, open any door...

                      Some quick pics:

routed wire through oem door harness (the blue wire)

I picked them up from a contact in the UK.

Actually fitting them now along with dynamat, new alarm light etc etc.

                          That's the Neanderthal method.

I've finished hooking up my new puddle light (still have the passenger side to do) which connects in properly to the controller and operates when you open the door or unlock the car.

And the interior door warning light which operates whenever the door is open also wired into the controller.

Along with a fix for the handle alignment problem, dynamat and updated door trim and window removal instructions.

Full details will be written up over the next week, I'll post the links here as I finish them off.
