Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just got the call from Matt @ Denlo Volkswagen. The diagnosis is lost compression in one of the cylinder chambers, doesn't look good. They've put the call out to Volkswagen Australia to get 'further instruction' (I don't even know what that means). This better be under warranty. More to come.

Yep, lost compression not good!! I'd agree, piston and or rings not happy...

Update on my sick puppy (JettaTSi)

Official response from Volkswagen Australia is they have given the service centre instruction to now pull apart the engine to see where the root cause of this lost compression is.

Non-official response is could be a valve issue.

After speaking with Nick @ Denlo, he wasn't too happy that I was quoting forum based information. But if people are posting factual (we hope) information on there then for the life of me I can't understand why they wouldn't consider it. If anything, forums are probably the best database of information that manufacturers like Volkswagen can use and they don't have to pay a cent! Listen to the client Volkswagen! Put your pride away for two seconds and just accept that forums (when used correctly) can help you diagnose issues if not be used as reference points for future developments!

The techs do have procedure to follow to get to the bottom of the problem. Its best to let them do their work and come to their own conclusions.
When troubleshooting, a professional will always be interested in a customers symptoms moreso than their diagnosis.

Anyways sucks that your car is broken. Hopefully its not too serious and you arent out of action for too long.

Agree with you there and there is nothing worse than someone telling you how to suck eggs aye? I get it all the time at work... hahahaha should have seen that coming.

The good thing is (I suppose) is Volkswagen Australia is doing the right thing and have given me a loan car from day one. This tells me that even while they can't figure out what's wrong they're making sure my customer experience is a good one (i.e. they're looking after me) I can't complain about that.
