  • Poor experience shopping for a Jetta / Passat

    Hi all.

I'm new to the vw cars and after months of shopping around testing various cars, I've decided it's between the Jetta 125tdi highline or Passat 125tdi highline.

Unfortunately, the customer service experience at both local dealers has been disappointing so far. Insulting quotes at full RRP and $2800 dealer delivery, poor knowledge of vehicles. Wasn't given opportunity to test drive unaccompanied despite several other customers being handed keys without hesitation.

I sought quotes from interstate to compare, first quote for a 2010 Jetta 125TDI highline w metallic, mdi, mudflaps, iPod cable under $40k on road; 2010 Passat with same features around $44.5k. I would like ideally to get leather and bi xenon on the jetta or with passat with bi xenon, memory seats & possibly dynaudio.

Can someone advise what prices have been achieved with both 2010 models, I understand the jetta replacement is due last quarter so I'd imagine they would both be in runout mode shortly?

    Join the Club!
The club of people who have received poor or non-existant service from VW dealers. You are not alone. I have been ignored by two separate dealerships twice in the space of 6mths. Walked out after 1/2hr.

If possible, venture further out till you find a dealer that will give you good service, There is a new dealer in Nowra and one in Camden.

The VW dealers know that VWs will sell themselves so will not do much or anything to win your business.

Good Luck! You're gonna need lots of it dealing with these ....

I think the Jetta and Passat new models will be out in 2011 locally,so its about a year too early for runout deals.

Personally,I prefer the Jetta, but am probably a bit biased,as thats what I have, but it is an awesome car,and IMHO a lot sportier than the Passat.

But I am not knocking the Passat, its also a magnificent car.

You will probably find that you will get good and bad service no matter what dealer/make. We have had a shocker in terms of dealing with VW service and even VW Oz head office (they don't want to have a bar of what dealers are or aren't doing). Prices for services can vary depending on who you go to. Eg. we have had $100 difference in quotes for the same service based on different dealers... Wonder if going earlier in the month is a better time to buy as i imagine they have targets on a monthly basis so they would be quick to make business at the start of each month to fill thier quota?... Goodluck!

I assume these were ACT dealers?

Head a little north, to a dealer just off the Hume HWY

PM me if you want the exact location. We'll look after you.

Just buy a Skoda Octavia instead - a better car with less problems (Skodas seem to be more reliable than VWs) and Colin Yap at Lennock Skoda is easy to deal with

(the above should reel a few "fish" in)

                  Hi all.

                  Thank you for your feedback.

While the current Jetta and Passat models look quite good, I am concerned with the new models coming out in approx 9 months whether this would further decrease the value of a Mk5 Jettas and Passats, even if they are built in mid-2010.

Regarding a Jetta, with the corporate plus discount applied, has anyone managed to purchase the 125TDI highline model for less than the $38990 RRP on road (including the options that should be non-cost like metallic paint and MDI)? Would $37000 on road be achievable if there were no extras added? Has anyone been able achieve discounts on items like Sat Nav etc?

It seems like a rip-off to pay $2500 for a sat nav over the standard colour touchscreen. The only difference is a modest increase in resolution; 30gig hard drive; and the sat nav...seeing as VW would be effectively keeping a unit worth (for argument's sake $2000), is it unreasonable to expect that an upgrade to sat nav could be added for $500 when it is essentially the same unit?

I was aware that an ordered VW would take around 6 months to arrive if I did order one...is there a month that VW would change over to MY11 spec?

MY11 is around mid year, so if you're worried about an overlap, get an order in for an MY11 now.
