Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Wouldn't it be the same deal as dynoing a traditional fluid transmission or manual?

put it in manual, roll it up to 4th gear,
put your foot on the gas, (dont hit the kick down button - the little 'click' right at wot) and look at the readout.

some ppl say when you move it into 4th hold down the upshift for the duration on the run, I dont know if it stops the kickdown from happening.

I still have my graph here somewhere from the guy who had no idea on how to do it..

go into 5th, paddle down to 4th but don't let go of the paddle. Go to the rpm you want to start from and then let her rip. Don't let go of the paddle. It will shift when red line is reached.

I thought if you held the paddle down in manual mode it doesn't shift (at redline)?

When shifting from 3rd to 4th hold down "up" paddle in manual mode for duration of readout.

Dean did fitzy go from 5th to 4th? Seems weird to downshift.

That was funny Steve, looked like he was trying to write his name or something.

I have a DSG software upgrade. Mine does not downshift automatically regardless of whether I hold the paddles or not.

Although in manual mode, I pushed it to 7200RPM and it still didnt upshift.. REVO have claimed that it changes gears at 7250RPM with their DSG software upgrade in manual mode.. but at 7200RPM, the engine sounded extremely 'screamy' so I backed off.

The above method works fine, will hold the gear as long as the dyno operator is familiar with the kick down switch under the eccelerator, which he would be!
The DSG will then shift up at redline which is no issue as you would have the whole RPM range on graph by then..... true?

I got it when REVO had a half price deal.. I paid $476. Very good upgrade may I add.. but not sure if I would pay $1k for it though..
