Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New MK5 GTI owner

    Hi,

I am not really a newbie to the forum, ive been lurking for a few years and just picked up a MK5 Gti on Saturday.

Very happy with it so far. Its an 06 model, manual, 1 owner with vw servicing, got it for a great price..

I came from an Audi A6 and before that an Audi A4 so a lot of the interior seems familiar, but does any one know if you can make the clock 12hr time (i don't have the full size mfd). I loathe 24hr time!

    Cheers,
    Jesse

P.S is there a way of changing my user name with out starting a new account?

    Hi Jesse

congrats on the car, looks great. I think you'll now be the 1001th person in lane cove to have a GTI haha.

    You planning any mods?

        Looks really tidy - congrats

Not sure on the time settings. I was under the impression that the functions available in the full screen MFD that are missing from the half screen one can be changed via VAG COM.... the dealer can do it.

That reminds me - I need to book my car in for a service

I also hate 24hr time ( I used to put up with it when I worked shiftwork, but the last time I did that was over 30 years ago).

I was told that on my Transporter (1/2 height MFD) the only way was to change the country to Canada using VCDS/Vagcom or the dealer tool. On my Octavia I have the full height MFD so I was able to change it from 24hr to 12hr time myself.

                      1.) Get a Mac.
                      2.) Download EasyBatchPhoto
3.) Re-size image in two clicks in EasyBatchPhoto
                      4.) Upload to imageshack.us
                      5.) put url in between

If you have windows then just download and install Image Resizer Powertoy (it's made by Microsoft).

Then all you have to do is right-click on the pictures you want to resize and choose "Resize Pictures".

you can just resize the pictures in imageshack by pressing the "resize" tab, it doesnt effect qaulity.
