There are definitely people on this forum who have tried similar things to this. I was reading about it just the other day but can't remember the thread names. I'd suggest searching this forum for "iPod" or "iPhone" and you'll come up with something.

From memory these units only work on older model GTIs that have external CD Stackers (I think they're in the dash?).... The unit basically plugs into the socket the stacker uses. You lose the stacker but the buttons on the Head Unit that normally control the stacker now control the iPod instead.

Given you have a 2009 model Jetta I imagine you have the same Head Unit as my 08 Golf ... which has the 6 stacker in the dash? If this is the case I am not sure if the HU still maintains a plug for an external stacker, and therefore this unit may not work...

well, if its anything like the OEM ones...
Its wont charge a 3gs/3rd gen or newer ipod touch.
        will not show track names
will have a 3 delay when changing songs quickly
will sound ordinary (better than bluetooth tho)

isaw, did you read the product details?? it gives you full info on your MFD display, the Grom unit makes the head unit think it's controlling a stacker, sound is apparently awesome.

Disk 2-6 mapped to playlists you create on iPod. Full control from car stereo. The following information is displayed: Disk #, Track #, time etc
you mean that bit? mine (the genuine VW ipod kit..) shows track number, disc number (well its actually a playlist number) and the time as well. Mine works as a stacker as well, same principal etc

I dont see it mention there the track name.... and thats what your asking about?

GROM-I2 adapter for iPod will charge all latest iPhone 3G, 3GS, iTouch 2G and Nano-chromatic as well as all previous iPods and iPhone.
My bad, the vw kit wont charge iphone 3g/s. glad they were able to swap 2 wires in this kit so it can.

As for sound, maybe mines just the RCD310.. the 500 sounds much better in my car

How did you? Did you end up getting the grom unit? I am looking at installing one in my mkv gti too. Am interested to hear your thoughts on the unit first though. any feedback appreciated!
