Thinking of doing the same thing to my MKV 1.4TSI soon. Did you get any discounts off their ~1500 price tag? What programs did you choose?

No the price is the standard as on the net..... $1550... there are 6 monthly specials sometimes but I couldn't be bothered waiting as it's usually only 10% discount anyway.
I chose 'stock' and '98 tune'.... as for those worrying about the 7DSG....................... I did alot of searching and had a chat to an individual I know at VW (not in AU), although the discussion didn't give me the max torque they are capable of........ the torque question everyone raises, it's not a concern to me.... wink wink!

Good to see you're enjoying it! It's like getting a completely new car isn't it? I couldn't wait to drive mine once it had been done.

Getting a little supercharger clutch chirp under heavy load (intermittently)..... if cruising then putting foot down you can hear the S/C clutch struggling a little (the much talked about metallic ping sound like a CV)...but as soon as the engine hits 3500rpm though and clutch disengages and it's all good..... doesn't affect power delivery at all.

That sounds like quite a bit of extra mechanical strain. Is this only when going WOT with the tune? What about regular driving?

Mainly when WOT only...... it also used to do it intermittently in stock tune as well but not as often.

                  APR'd Jetta

I have a Jetta 118TSi but is under warranty does the APR chip affect the warranty?

^ Basically, if the warranty claim can be attributed to the power upgrade then yes. But, if for example, the warranty claim is on a faulty ipod adapter then no.

With any upgrade there is an element of risk. It's just up to you what risk you are willing to take for the potential increase in output/ performance or look.

If you are keen on an upgrade go with a reputed supplier with proven in field results.

                    Good luck

@Creniac did you get it done at the place down at mona vale?? how long did it take? good service? good explanation on what they are doing etc?

I don't know much about tuning, but i'm thinking about heading down there to take a look.

Yes, the team in Mona Vale, excellent service, I was in and out in 30 mins, no need to pull anything apart, all done through internet and your OBDII port.

Fanaki, spot on mate! Completely agree, it's a risk you take..... however we all know APR is a reputable VW/Audi tuner so I have no concerns.....

so something that can be done via their little computer... why does it cost $1695? i always thought it was an actual chip, hence it cost money to make, but it is just like a computer program... i wonder if i can download it on the internet hahahaha

^ There are a number of factors that contribute to the price eg R&D, availability of support, market size just to name a few.

There are cheaper alternatives available and everyone has there own take on which chip is better than the next. At the end of the day, you need to be comfortable with the outlay you make versus the product (and relevant support, warranties etc) that you end up with.

X Chip versus Y Chip is an ongoing debate on these forums. If you search APR, GIAC, REVO, Bluefin to name a few you will find HEAPS of info.
