  • Oil service 2006 Golf

    Heh Guys

Any idea what I should expect to pay for an 'oil service' on a 2.0TDI; i.e. oil change and filter replacement plus ... not much more?

I'm having a 112K [kind of 7500k interim service before the big 120k].

    Anyone had experience on this?

I had an interim service (Jetta TDI 6sp) carried out last week at 37 500km. The VW specialist charged $170 which is about half of what the dealer wanted. And the work was done by the owner of the business not a brain dead apprentice.

By the way, the oil cost alone amounted to more than half the bill.

Yes, the correct 504/507-grade oil is expensive, but it's a lot cheaper than replacing the DPF.

Many people don't bother with the interim service, and are happy to do it every 15,000klm instead. The interim service is basically and engine oil and filter change, and the usual check-over.

In regards to the 'brain-dead apprentice' remark, it's that sort of negativity that drives them out of our trade. They've got to start somewhere mate.

The guy doing the service made that comment. He showed me the oil filter which had been fitted with one too many o rings at the previous (dealership) service.

Oil service to 'target apprentice'; matters arising!

            Thanks Guys,

I have been enlightened just a little. I'll let you know what they charge, but if I can negotiate, I will give it shot.

Up to now I have maintained the 15K routine, however at 112k and some long trips planned for autumn, I thought to get some clean oil in.

As far as apprentices go, while I can empathize with Riley [as we have all experienced 'incompetence' in service at some point] I suppose it is about the management acknowledging that they do get it wrong and compensating accordingly.
