Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Passenger side air bag rattle?

A question to the gurus out there.

Our Late 2005 Mk V TDI has developed a rattle which seems to be coming from the passengers side dash airbag area. When taking the passenger vent out and listening it seems to be 'in the dash' above the glove box.

Not driving the car every day I haven't heard it develop and having asked SWMBO about it she said she just turns the radio up and ignores it.

    I can't.

Anybody got an exploded diagram of the dash area giving some idea of whats there before i pull it apart?

    Thanks in advance.

Could be your fan blower motor?!

    Any more info...

Does it happen when idling? With Air Con On? Fan on a certain speed? Going over speed bumps? etc...

Try this just in case it's the same rattle I had in my Mk5

        Thanks for the link.

Had a chance to get to look at the car this week end.
Found that the screws, both drivers side and passengers side as seen in the link, were loose.

Will report back later on the success of the 'fix'.

Ope126, seems to vary, mainly caused by 'engine lugging vibrations' .

        Regards,

        David
