I love my TDi so much i want to buy one for my missus.

Found a:

2005 2.0 TDi Manual
122k on the clock with full service history including timing belt.
12 months reg.
Minor scratch on one side 1" long or so.

$16500 drive away.

Sounds pretty good to me.

Your missus will be very busy in a manual TDI, LOTS of cog swapping in urban areas. Also it's well into EGR clog territory, so I'd ask it to have a VW EGR flush prior to purchase.

Interesting update- i picked up my diesal after its 30k service., and the Service manager unprompted, suggested i get a Manifold flush/solution procedure or similar comment, next time i am in For $190. Interesting when i previously raised queries , there was no need or problems. Anyway, guess this is a positive pro active step.

Seems like a scam to get more money from the customer who just want the best for the car.

Investigate exactly what a 'Manifold flush/solution procedure or similar', then see if you can replicate it for $10, i.e. Injector Cleaner.

I bought a 2006 jetta 2.0 TDI with leather, sunroof, parking sensors, 6sp manual with 23,000kms for $23,500 for the wife, its a great car, getting 900kms from a tank averaging 6.1L/100km around town. Bought at chatswood VW

you could pay a little less for a car at auction, that could be where its come from. Or, much worse, it could be a repairable write off, revs check it.

All modern diesels route exhaust gas back through the inlet to lower combustion temps, basically to lower the diesels typically high NO emissions.This is the EGR - exhaust gas recirculation. Problem is they also route the crankcase vapour into the same inlet, and oil vapour plus exhaut soot equals sludge. See the last few pages in my tinkering continue thread in the diesel section for actual pics of my TDI inlet at 40k's WITH a proactive provent minimising the oil vapour segment. Scary! There's been more than one member have issues with parts failing due to this buildup, and bottom line as it lowers the size of the inlet, you lose power and economy, and movong parts can and do fail. No good can come of that!

An EGR flush is basically using a spray cleaner whilst the car is runninf to try and clean out this sludge buildup. How well t works is an unknown, but the simple fact is it's necessary, and I'd say it would be a prudent thing to do every 50k's or so. Given the EGR flap that failed in High Torques TDi cost over $1k due to failing from sludge, I think the charge is pretty good in comparison.

I will be investigating closely, rest assured, as i had previously quizzed them extensively on the sort of problems Cogdoc has identified, and they previously denied the problem, and/or the need for a Provent!
