  • Thinking of buying - warranty and model year query

I am thinking of buying a GTi if I can find a 3 door with the spec's and price I want. I would probably be looking at a 2006/07 and have a couple of questions:
What is the standard VW warranty? 3 year?
VW extended warranty would be for another 3 years? I would like a DSG but have long term concerns about their reliability - is the extended warranty comprehensive enough to cover all potential issues?
Is the MY08 model upgrade the pick of the bunch? What upgrades does this have over the prior models?

    Cheers guys.

Yes the standard warranty is three years and yes the extended warranty adds another 3 years.

    The MY08 adds the following:

    - Full screen Multi Function Display (MFD) in the dash (as opposed to a half screen one)...This basically means you get access to a few more options for configuring your car.

    - Some MY08s have an Auxiliary Port for the stereo in the centre console however there doesn't seem to be much a consistency in which models/builds had this.

Erm... I can't think of anything else but if you search this forum for the word "differences".... you will have some luck...

I just did that - have some links:

That should give you some reading material

      Thanks, appreciate it.

Now does anyone know how comprehensive the extended warranty is?

Thanks, thats a bit disappointing that only the original owner can extend the warranty.

            The PDS says you can....

            Eligibility
Eligibility to apply for Volkswagen Used Vehicle Extended Warranty Insurance is dependant
on the age of the vehicle and the number of kilometres registered on the vehicles odometer.
            • 36 month or 60,000km Warranty
You can only apply for this warranty if the vehicle:

            – has an odometer of less than 150,000 kilometres at the date you buy it, and
            – is distributed by Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daihatsu, Daewoo, Ford, Holden, Honda

That one covers a max of 2k per claim. the rest is out of your pocket.

the VOLKSWAGEN NEW CAR EXTENDED warranty is the one you want, and you can buy it when the car is still in warranty. (I just got mine ~2 weeks ago)
Pitty you weren't looking 5 months ago as my car was for sale to!~

Yes, the car you buy needs to still be in original warranty, either by a year, month or day... as long as its still there!

The extended warranty (read the sticky thread!!) will cost you ~1500. dealers will quote ~2500 but they make soo much on it. I got mine from Denlo, Jamil was easy to deal with and price was under 1500.
