  • Front speakers Mkv r32

    Sup guys

I want to upgrade the front stock speakers to something better. but before i do that i need info.

would anyone know the size of speakers i can fit into the door and also are the stocks 2 way or 3 way?

    thanks for the help

I'm unsure of the size, but I was under the impression there are 3 separate speakers, a woofer, a mid and a tweeter. By the way, before you upgrade the sound, do you have any vibrations coming from the doors because of the sound system? If so, might want to probably get them dynamat'd - I did and it definitely helps and the sound of the stock system is definitely improved.

+ 1 I went with Stinger Roadkill, does the same task except Roadkill is thicker.

I have a GTI Pirelli and have Dynaudio 3-ways in the front.

your best bet would be one of two.

Either the Rainbow IQ 320.25. Is a direct replacement, includes everything required to upgrade the front.

Otherwise there Is Focal I think they where 165vr3's or something along those lines.

Two completely different speakers awesome in there own right, Just depends if you want defintion and clarity/Quality or Smoothness and Definition. these two version are that far apart from each other.

But will warn you once you upgrade the Speakers an Amplifier will follow extremely quickly afterwards.

The MK5 R32 definitely come with three ways in the doors, something i wish the mk4 r32 came with from factory !!!

But as glidn mentioned, if your going to be upgrading to something hi quality like the rainbows or the focal's, i would DEFINITELY be getting a good quality amp to power them.

Is there any reason in particular you are wanting to upgrade the speakers? Is it because you don't like the clarity?midbass? etc? If it is bass issues then as silver32 has mentioned, perhaps try sound deadening the doors first to see how you like that. You will notice a huge improvement over the factory deadening in terms of sound, plus you'd be looking at top $260 for a bulk pack of Dynamat which should be able to do all four doors depending on how much you layer them.

Sound deadening is a good idea regardless of what speakers you have. Speakers will always function exponentially better in a vibration free environment. But before I run out and buy some, how mush do these things weigh? I've heard they can be a bit weighty.

                Hey guys

Thanks for the reply's been away for the weekend so haven’t had time to check.

Well im disappointment with the stock setup atm. no where near 65k worth.
also like suggested ill be dynamat'd the front doors

Im doing a full set up for the r32 which so far includes the following
JBL GTO 3 way speakers and to run these a JBl GTO 4 way amp
12inch Sub and hand built and designed box (approx 92L)
also to run that ive got a JBL GTO 1 Ohm stable at 1000w and max 1550w

for the deck which has given me so much trouble im currently looking at a Pioneer F900bt if that’s the right number

Dynamat doesn't really help vibrations you need some foam or Tac-mat (product from dynamat) that sits between the door card and the metal. You really only need to do some dynamat around the mid bass, but worth doing the door skins on MK5 since you can take them off.

I'm sure the MK4 ones sound better, the speaker locations in MK5 are screwed up with the woofer at the back of the door, god knows why. Also 3-way isn't always better than 2-way, i'd happily prefer a 2-way with better/conventional speaker positioning.

Probably because the stock system sucks and is pathetic for a 65k car.. moreso the lack of amplification (even with the 250W amp) and factory crossovers.

honestly I would not bother with the JBL GTO speakers. no offence,

the Rainbow speakers are handbuilt german speaker. what better than for your german car.

Otherwise I would go the Focal (French) speakers.

I would honestly recommend upgrading your factory stereo.
Otherwise I can offer you an alternative, Basically you keep your factory stereo. And use an JL Audio Cleansweep, That reconfigures the Equalization, and starts over from scratch.

If you really want to keep your factory radio. But the F900BT is an awesome unit for what it does.

P.S. JBL speakers for car audio are no longer built in USA only china. Except hand full of JBL GTI speakers/subs.

I agree, I wouldn't waste your time installing rubbish speakers.

I'd go for quality stuff like Dynaudio, Focal, Alpine and DLS (and plenty of others, can't think of a heap that fit). Those rainbows are talked about a bit too.

Northfield are getting in some DLS 3-ways as a cheaper option to Dynaudio, i think they are around $1000 a set.

i love the sound of focals but my budget wont allow for it, even the rainbows.

yep the factory unit is going and the Pioneer F900BT is going in.

ok then i need a cheap option of around 300-400 for 3 ways for the fronts thats about all i can spend. any suggestions for that price range
