Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • GTI Rear Bumper Valance and GTI Exhaust (bolt on upgrade for Sportline?)

    Hi all,

I'm keen on going for a GTI Rear Bumper Valance and Exhaust Upgrade for my '06 Manual Sportline and am wondering if anyone can confirm this is a 'bolt on'? Also whether or not to go 'Cat Back' or just cut the section as the exhaust goes through the rear wheels and just fit the last muffler. The middle muffler on the GTI looks quite different to that on my current exhaust.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Yep, I can confirm 100% that its compatible.

I had an '05 Manual Sportline and I converted the exhaust to a GTI catback and put on the GTI rear valance on the rear.

Made a pretty good sound, wasn't too loud. A little drony when going 100km/h and you put your foot down to speed up a little.

Can I ask from where are you getting the rear valance?,

      Cheers!

Only 'issue' you may find is that the rear wheel well guards are a different shape to those used on the GTI. You'll find that the last (rearmost) screw hole doesn't line up with the GTI valence. For me it wasn't an issue, but if it is for you, then you'll need two rear GTI liners for the wheel wells as well as the valence.

You may also find that your local 'zorst shop can cut your current downward facing tips off and replace them with some suitable straight out tips for a lot less than an OEM exhaust.

I agree, I went for a straight through pipe on the TDI, no rear muffler, but I reckon that would be pretty loud on a petrol.

Yes, they don't line up on the rear but you can't notice it.

Side skirts are a little more involved....

One of the other TSI guys did a full muffler delete:

Or you could leave the rear muffler and just replace the outlets.
