    Hi Guys,

After what feels like running around in circles for ages strathfield mob said they can fit a aux cable from the rear of my sat nav radio system for $150. Not bad

They do not stock the cable though - said needs to be purchased from VW

    how about this off ebay:

    would that work?

it just scares me when they say:
    # You can't connect a CD Changer to the head unit at the same time while this cable is connected.
#Just plug one end of this cable into the CD changer input in the back of your stereo and the other end to your iPOD/iPHONE dock connector.

Im assuming the above wont apply to me as i have a seperate aux out from the rear of my vw sat nav radio - i still like to use the stacker.
    Any help greatly appreciated

The information about the stacker is a bit misleading as it is only relevant if you have an external stacker ... whereas your stack is in the head unit itself (right?)...

Therefore the plug on the back which the AUX cable will go into should be free to use (if it exists!)...

All that said - Maverick will eventually weigh in here with way more relevant info that I can provide... paying $150 for an AUX cable seems ridiculous to me though ...

Its $150 for strathfield mobile car installation dude to only install. But i need to provide him with the cable. He said you can only buy it from the dealer.

I think what i need though is whats on the ebay link in my first post. I've inquired at my local dealer and they dont have any either - on backorder.

I have this sat nav system: http://photos.autoexpress.co.uk/imag...o_24480_25.jpg With a 6 Stacker Cd system in the arm rest. The sat nav cd is always in use in the head unit itself in the dash. I'd like to preserve both those.

so no aux headphone jack input anywhere in the car. apparently that came on 2006 + models (mine is 2005).

        Hey guys,

Is that just the cable?, i just bought mine the original from VW from a friend and that come with a little box too and the iPod cable and 3 video cables,

My friend helped to fit it 10min max just to remove the main unit and all the plastic covers...

        Just wondering....

        Cheers!

          Chriskq,

Here is a link to a thread I started, but alas, no help!

          Hi All,

          After a bit of help...

I have the MFD2 C (DVD Based) Sat Nav in my car with the OEM 6 Disc CD Changer in the glovebox.

I would like the option of an AUX Input.

In my centre console (Armrest) there is a "BLANK" where the newer model Passats have the "AUX IN". I would like to "retrofit" this "AUX IN" into my vehicle.

Only catch, I still want to be able to use the 6 Disc CD Changer...

          So here are my options, what are your thoughts on which will work the best;

OEM Parts: - 1Q0971656 MP3 AUX IN HARNESS (from back of head unit) / 5M0035724 AUX IN SOCKET (to replace black plate in the armrest)
I like this option as I can use a 3.5mm to ipod connector for better quality sound from my ipod. the above parts are what is now offered in 2008+ Passats, so I can only assume that this harness will connect into the back of my MFD2 and still allow the CD Changer to function also.

          Kufatec: http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_i...FD2--RNS2.html
I also like this option as I can use a 3.5mm to ipod connector for better quality sound from my ipod. This looks like what the OEM setup is like.

          Line In Adaptor: http://cgi.ebay.com/AUX-Line-IN-adap...item19b46df744
This option will only allow me to use the 3.5mm headphone out from my ipod. Poorer Sound Quality?

Not really looking at other options such as Dension / MDI etc.

Looking for a basic way to get more flexability out of my system.

Ok, so what are your thoughts / experiences...

Basically what I have found is that you either have CD STacker functionality or ipod/AUX, not both at the same time.

The unit that you have is a MFD2 Sat Nav.

Keep me up to date as to the outcome...

            Hi Glenn,

I think the ebay item you found is slightly more safer than the direct ipod cable i found that has charging ability (which i dont care about)

            vs

i can only assume i would have the spare output at the rear of the my 2005 sat nav head unit - i also do not want to give up my cd stacker. Im just keen to run the cable from the back of the head unit down the drivers side dash fitting so i can connect it to a mountable itouch holder on my windscreen. Yes will be a cable hanging about - dont really care.

you can then buy a cheap ipod to 3.5mm cable and bobs ur brothers uncle?

Can anyone please help to confirm this - would be greatly appreciated.
            Cheers

just got off the phone to the vw service dealer where i just got my 60k service done 2 days ago.

He confirmed that if you connect the ipod aux cable to the rear of the head unit it has to replace the cd stacker cable.

Does anyone know if there is some sort of piggy back cable so both could be plugged in at the same time.

              otherwise,

its to have ipod functionality - or to keep cd stacker..... i would have really like to have both =

                As stated earlier...

But I have not come across a "piggy back / splitter" for this yet. Would be keen to find one though!

For me I will keep the CD Stacker as the sound quality is better than what the AUX would be...

                  Glenn,

These guys know of a way of piggy backing apparently.

they even install some sort of switch that lets you flick between the two.

initial quote over the phone was: $500 +

                  what do you think?

For that price I would change the headunit to an RCD 500MP3 (Inbuilt 6 disc stacker)or if your have a later model MK5(08 onwards with the updated CAN Gateway) to an RCD 510, which come up quite often on E-Bay and plug the I-POD connection into the aux input of that unit

there is a RCD 510 for sale on ebay - expect my golf is a 2005 model - so im assuming thats no dice there... plus i have a good sat nav system already and im assuming my dvd that came with the MFD2 sat nav wouldnt work with the RCD 510 sat nav

Im thinking i might just bite the bullet and buy the cheap ipod aux cable off ebay and can the 6 stacker... for only $25 + my time it seems like the most common sense option.

I only used the 6 stacker when i first got the car and i was making new cds every week. The ipod has all my tunes on it.. i just cant handle the static that comes with using an itrip radio transmitter.

Why not try the x-carlink ? you can buy them for about $150 of ebay, i have one connected to the "concert" head unit in my Audi. It allows you to have a line out & a stacker, the plug has a splitter in it, and to access the line out you just press the "cd" button on the head unit twice and it switches over to the line out mode, it doesn't display your songs on the head unit and wont charge your ipod either as its a simply a line out not an ipod connector, so changing your songs via the ipod is the only option but still better then losing your stacker.

You get a line out, usb slot and sd card slot on the unit. Playing directly off the usb is higher quality then the line out with the ipod but still not as good as cd quality.

This is all based on the Audi units, i assume the vw ones are the same..

RCD 510 is not a navigation unit.

                          RCD = Radio CD
                          RNS = Radio Navigation System

There are two suitable units, the RNS 310 and the RNS 510 but both require a gateway upgrade as do all third generation head units on a car with your revision of gateway.

You can find more info at www.my-gti.com (search for third generation)

Do these adaptors that plug into the aux port allow you to have the navigatio/map running at the same time as playing music from the ipod from the aux input??
