  • dogbone hitting subframe..

Anyone else ever have this problem? The underside of my dogbone mount is clashing with the subframe and making a **** house noise. It looks like the mount on the subframe end has actually fallen down a little bit.

how the **** did you manage to bend that!?

nothing appears to be bent.. it just looks like its got no clearance anymore.. like the actual rubber mount you fit your TAI to has gotten lower in the subframe somehow.

do you have an aftermarket mount?

if so, the rubber bush may have deteriorated.
thats the grinding noise that you can hear.
i had the same problem, didn't know what was causing it until i got under the car and checked.

your side engine mounts might have something to do with it to.
they are very soft and the engine rocks back and forth under hard acceleration putting more stress on the dogbone.

i recently had the side ones replaced with VF ones, it limits the back and forth movement, but if you like refinement, don't get them changed.
cos now my car vibrates like a mofo. but im used to it now.

sweet, thats what i wanted to hear. Yeah Ive got an APR TAI. The noise is horrible. I had a look at the VF mounts but the vibration from the insert was bad enough for me.

Installing a TAI puts added pressure on the other rubbers in the dogbone mount, and they will fail prematurely, since they are taking all the stress that the TAI removes from the biggest rubber in the system.

That's part of the price of the benefits the TAI.

and if you have an after market Dog bone mount, the little rubber bush/washer deteriorates which will also produce a metal on metal rubbing/knocking noise.
