Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    hi guys...
I haven't been here for a while... been busy playing with my 12 month old son

My warranty is about to expire, soon, so I am going to do my own servicing and brake replacement.
I tried searching for it but came up empty handed...

Can you please give links or pdf instructions on how to

Brakes are easym, buy some pads from GSL rally sport, you'll need a 18mm socket (a breaker bar is very handy!) and a tool to compress the calliper back in.

in your in bris you can rent mine, or you can buy one from america (ecs tuning + $50aud + delivery)

As for the oil, never done it, but I'd be buying a quick release plug to put into the sump for when I do.

Minor servicing you can do yourself, but for major stuff it's well worth the cash to use an aftermarket VW specialist. Replacing a timing belt is something I've done before, but would GLADLY pay someone else to do.

If you search my tinkering begin thread it goes into replacing the oil filter, draining the oil is basically undoing the lowest large bolt on the alloy sump, best done after a run while the engine is still warm, not hot!

If you're not quite sure about oil etc, best you don't start with important items such as brakes, just quietly!

From the questions your asking & if you can't find the information using google, then I'd think about paying a decent independent to do the work.

seriously, how hard is it to use google rather than treat your fellow forum members like librarians?

                      No problems...

Can someone please explain why is it important to pour 200ml of oil into oil filter...
I would really like to know because mine is out of warranty, and I don't want to do any damage by not doing it correctly.

It gets the oil through the system quicker & the oil pressure comes up faster.

Also (in theory), the preoiled filter is less likely to be damaged by new oil belting into a void at first start. eg the prefill acts as a damper. Not totally convinced myself.

                        100ml - 200ml - I doubt the quantity is hugely important.
