Euro plate mounting?

I noticed on a set of euro plates that were ordered in for a Benz customer at my dealership that there are no holes drilled at all in the plates. For those of you with euro plates, how did you mount them? Double-sided tape maybe? Or how many holes did you drill into them?

Furthermore, on the Mk5, what are the normal mounting holes for euro plates, both front and rear? I hope it's not through the middle like on some cars?!?

The Germans use plate holders that screw to the car using the bosses fitted by the manufacturer. The metal plates then fit inside the holders.

I reckon if you have a look on ebay.de you'll find some.

yeah i got some plate holders for mine. the holder screws to the car and the plates slot in then u put a cover over the bottom bit. saves drilling holes in your stupidly overpriced plates

The MINI has mounts in the middle of the rear plates which is a bit pants.

I just drilled two holes in the centre which lined up with the genuine VAG holes.

Syncro, when you say you drilled the centre, was it in about the position where I've marked on this euro plate by the red dots?

It might sound dodgy, but seriously just use good double sided tape! I have two mates that work for Audi/Lamborgini/Ferrari and they use double sided tape for all of those cars! Trust me if you do it right IT WONT COME OFF!!

The dealer just drilled a couple of ragged holes in my plates and bolted them on to the standard bosses. Not impressed.

I drilled new holes in the boot lid and installed stainless steel nutserts in the right locations. The front plate had been attached with a couple of self tappers straight into the chrome bumper. I drilled the holes out and put stainless nutserts in the front too.

Hey Tim.. can you clarify for me the following.. if the plates simply sit inside the cover and the cover is what is scrwed onto the car, doesnt this mean that the plates can be stolen by simply just opening the cover and taking out the plate?

yes plates can be stolen relatively easy. but it would be easier to undo a couple screws on a standard plate than it would be to get a plate out of one of those plate holders. Theyre certainly not that easy to get in. U kinda need to flex the plate to slot it in.

Benz customer? Could that be me? ahhahaha.. On the benz I use the Euro Plate mount, they came with clips.

As for the Euro plate on the R32.. I just use 3M double sided tape mate!!
