Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Lol! hahahaha, its amazing how ppl do that. A couple of years ago, I bought a little alfa and after driving it a week or two the exhaust snapped, and my mate got in it when I went to get it repaired and said it was faster lol.

This should come pre-installed in diesels!

Shame it'd only rev to 4500rpm, but what a fun toy.

EDIT: Doh, needs ignition spark apparently, so much for diesel fun!

Assume it doesn't come through the cars speakers, only a small speaker on the gadget? Would be better to pump it so others can hear outside .

nah.. apparently, it DOES come through the speakers. someone said they put their windows down and people on the street thought it was a real V8 because he had bose speakers. anyway, i'll know tomorrow.. i'm picking mine up. should be good for some laughs.

in the second link, the guy says that you tune the car radio to the gadget. you actually see him turning up the volume on the stereo.

that V10 one would be killer! and if you had a decent subbie you would even be able to "feel" the V10 burble hehehe

It also apparently doubles as a normal wireless iPod/mp3 interface - tune it to a spare FM frequency and it acts like a local radio station, transmitting to your head unit.

But even without this useful feature, it sounds like a real giggle...

I picked it up today and tried it in my 7spd dsg jetta 1.4.
It doesn't work as well in this vehicle. If anyone has tried it or has a similar vehicle in Perth and wants to try it at the next meetup, let me know.

I think somewhere between the vehicle generally running at low rpms; the supercharger and turbocharger kicking in at various times; and maybe even the current measured, it just doesn't sound very smooth V8 like.

Half the time, it sounds like it's idling or can't pick up the signal from the current. Or maybe that's just what a V8 sounds like.. haha, I don't know.

I took about 5 or 6 videos and only 1 came out semi-decent. Might post it tonight. In frustration, I tried it on a friend's hyundai 1.6 auto, and it sounded a lot more like the youtube videos. I reckon I'm going to muck around with it a bit more. I think it works best in a manual or one with fewer gears than 7.
