Definitely get it back to the Dealer ASAP, helps having full VW service history in cases like this.

Do you know if the car had the 60,000km 3 Year DSG service?

Also helps if there are no Ultra Tune stamps in the service book.

OP talking 06 model... it was MY car that was stated as an 08 model.

Limped the car to transmission specialist who deals with DSG's (unsure who at the moment), fault coded it and sure enough it appears the mechatronic unit has failed and will cost around $4500 to fix.......the car has only done 70,000km!! Hmmmm, wonder if the VW US deal will come here and give us all 100,000mile, 10 year warrantes??
DSG Failure - I have a 2008 Jetta with DSG and have had my 'mechatronic' unit replaced twice in the past 10 months - all under warranty. I only have 48,000 km on the clock and the dealer has been excellent inclduing providing me a loaner car ( a new Golf!) for both repairs. My complaint is the long time it takes for VW Aust to approve warranty repairs. First time it took two weeks to get the car back. 2nd time it was a week. BUT I still LOVE my Jetta and the TFSI engine matched to the DSG. Fun to drive and pretty economical too - even putting in 98 RON petrol. Dan

Interesting stuff. I drove my folks' Jetta (2006 2.0T DSG, 90kms) yesterday and thought the gearshifts were a bit soft (when operated as a tiptronic).

It seemed to me that the diverter valve (like a blow off valvew for boost pressure) was too slow to respond and pick up boost again after an upshift... It wasn't crisply popping through the gears and picking up boost again, but bleeding boost from one gear to another.

Did you get the 3 year "FACTORY WARRANTY" or "DEALERSHIP WARRANTY"???

If anyone out there holds the dealership warranty make sure you read through the fine print....
On my previous car they offered me extended dealership warranty, but if there is a major repair, they will only cover up to a $1000..... I laughed.....
So if the gearbox, engine fails it’s pretty much useless even though I paid thousands for the cover.....
ALSO for the Dealership Warranty to be valid, you service intervals will have to be performed by that dealer itself or you will breach the agreement and down the track they can reject your claim......

Make sure you get the extended Factory Warranty and I know VW do offer this option.....

Hi Ozguy and others on this post, with the problem you are having, what is the feeling like when the problem happened? I have another post here where I had a bit of a kick feeling (as if the car was dropping down a gear at 100km/h) and then 5 seconds later the car died. No warning lights or anything. I am taking the car to a VW dealer next week to check but I guess I am trying to find if anyone else has experienced the same thing?
