    You could be right there!

    I was approaching it more from the point when the car is parked. In that instance it doesn't matter how much light is coming through from the lamps themselves, but the tinting may affect the amount reflecting back from the reflectors themselves???

      Did you remove your tail lights before you rubbed acetone on them to get the paint off? It might be a wise idea to remove them next time, your paint probably won't be too fond of acetone.

      I had the lights on my old Mk3 tinted and it didn't look too bad, wasn't hazy or anything and the difference in light wasn't too bad, but it would have definitely been illegal.

        Not sure if this is relevant, but out for a stroll at lunch. Spotted a normal mazda 3 with the lexus style lights that come standard, it too had additional reflectors on its bumper.
