  • Brake Pad Replacement

After my last service, I was informed that I need new brake pads.
I hear that aftermarket pads are about the same price or cheaper than OEM ones, and was wondering what pads people recommend and where in sydney they got theirs fitted or would recommend to go to for this sort of work?
The dealer quoted me about $600 for all 4

Im mainly after a bit better bite and less dust.

Remsa pads mate, and very competetive compared to OEM, which can be Ferodo or Pagid. Remsa still give off a little dust, but makes for a top pedal.

Or if you dont want to do it yourself and dont have the special tools for the rear $600 fitted sounds reasonable.

Not really confident or equipped to DIY, so i would be looking at getting them fitted by a workshop who preferably could also supply the parts

+1 to this. I was able to get slotted DBA rotors and new remsa pads all round for $500 delivered, then you can buy the brake tool install kit from ecstuning for ~30usd, and about 30 for delivery. you still come out well ontop.
Give it a go, you might learn something

Ended up going for hawk ceramics
$240 fitted for the rears, doing fronts later as they have more life left.

                Hi mate,

As a couple of the guys have said the closest thing you'll get to OEM with a bit less dust is Remsa. Remsa is part of the TRW Group, who are the largest aftermarket parts manufacturer in the world, and specialize in European cars, right down the electronic wear sensors, of which the majority on European cars were made by TRW anyway...

There's 2 options, but assuming yours is the more common Mk5 pads (with 288x25mm front rotors) Remsa pads are $115 for the front, and $89 for the rear. Both in stock, and the fronts come with the electronic wear sensor as standard.

                Regards,
                Greg

Beat me too it... Could do worse than the Hawks! What's the split of that $240 in parts/labor?

                        I went hawk ceramics.

I was going to go with Remsa but over the brake dust that OEM and Remsa pads give off.

Got them from here as they were the cheapest in terms of pads and shipping:

                        Great service as well!

I am considering purchasing from ECSTuning - their website quotes about the same price for the pads (actually $1 less) but a decent $30 less in shipping than DBC ($63 vs $93 for the cheapest shipping option). Still cheaper than a local Aus quote by a considerable margin to supply and ship.

I have some Hawk Ceramic pads in the shed waiting for the OEMs to wear down enough, or for the next track day Minister of War lets me attend....(whichever is first)

Was going to go for the HPS, but in the end rushed a decision for the ceramics as I had the oipportunity to pick them up cheap. Still wondering if I did the right thing, especially for the odd track day.
