  • Bouncing boot and 45 degree heat

    Hi guys,

I remember back when a few guys had problems with bouncing boots on MKVs, and using the search feature doesnt seem to be working...

It hasnt really been a problem until now, the boot wont seem to close... the solution is to constantly push it down and bounce it until it closes, I'm thinking the lock isnt engaging. Has anyone encountered this problem? What did you guys do? By the way, its happened before when it was raining, went away until today when it started raining again... checked the locks and nothing was wet or moist..

Also, ive been noticing that the water temp is lower on a hot 40-45degree day with the a/c on (87-89) where as on a cold day with out the a/c its 93... car still runs like a dog though in the heat...

Thanks guys, much appreciation for any help!

    bump

I have the same problem...only seems to be on hot days? And it takes a few goes to get it to close... in fact I have found that it works better pushing on the side of the boot near the number plate mount rather than the middle top as you would normally ?

Its almost like the plastic expands when its hot and prevents the lid from engaging the latch.

    cheers

Could be that the struts are firmer when it's hot.

On my Jetta, the boot opens really fast when it's hot as the gas in the struts has more pressure. When it's <5 degrees, the boot just pops open and stops without lifting fully.

Could be in need of an adjustment on the catch (and/or hinges). If it is just latching in some weather conditions but not others a slight change in position may fix it so it works regardless of weather.

A good panel beater may have more expertise in this area than normal mechanics.
