Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Couple of questions - bluetooth & audio

Just picked up an 07 MkV 2.0TDi today, it's our first Golf, so jumped on the net to find a useful owners forum, and came across this one. Looks pretty good!

Just got a couple of quick questions that hopefully someone can help me out with. Sorry if these have been covered off already - I had a quick search and couldnt see anything useful.

    1) The car has the steering wheel controls for the phone, but from what I can gather from the manual, you need the 'phone cradle' option to be able to use bluetooth. Is there a generic option to open up bluetooth without using the cradle? If not, is there a cradle for the iPhone, or if neither of the above, is there a third party way of getting bluetooth and using the wheel controls. Any ideas on price for any of the above??

    2) The manual talks about an audio socket option to connect into the fitting in the glovebox. Without pulling off the blanking plate, I presume there is some VW specific connector under there, and I can get a cable which will give me a 3.5mm stereo jack - or can you get something more sophisticated, and get an iPod.iPhone connector that will charge as well? How much for VW original equipment, or third party options? Any ideas on part numbers?

    Thanks in advance!
