  • quicjk question regarding the rheostat for headlight range control

can anyone tell me if the rheostat in the car is slightly faulty (doesnt work every time) will it throw a VCDS code ?

im trying to trouble shoot a lighting issue im having at the moment, that i think might be a failing rheostat wheel in the car.

i am thinking of replacing it, but don't wanna spend money on a part that's not 100% the problem.
if i have the car scanned, will it show a fault code of some type for this part ?

    Jason.

        How is my post vague?

I'm asking if the range control rheostat is intermittantly faulty will it throw a code ?

        What's vague about that ?

i would say take it to someone to scan it (vw specialist) and get their opinion on what you should be doing

              where are you located?
              What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

To answer your original question, I don't know if it will throw a code, but...

                A bit more info -
when it's faulty, do the lights not adjust their range AT ALL?

I mean, if the lights don't physically change, that could indicate a mechanical fault (not just an electronic fault). It may not be the rheostat, it may be anywhere further along the line towards the headlights too (ie a plug connection, or in the headlamp itself, &c, &c).
