Tiptronic rolling forward in reverse

Our 07 Jetta FSI Tiptronic was parked on an incline facing down. I had my foot on brake and selected R to reverse up the incline, but when I took my foot off the brake the car rolled forward instead of staying stationery or going reverse as I had expected. It seemed like reverse gear was not engaged, it felt like the car was in neutral. All other autos I've driven dont roll forward on inclines when placed into reverse, they either hold postion or creep backwards.

We've just bought a new home with a driveway that slopes down into the garage. I'm not sure of my wifes driving skills in this situation and I think there's a risk the car could unintentionaly roll forward and crash into the garage door after selecting R instead of reversing up the inclined driveway.

Would appreciate feedback/advice on this please.

I assume you mean DSG not Tiptronic?

The DSG isn't an automatic gearbox and it operates in a completely different manner. Reading the manual would be a good place to start as it will explain how it works and also hill starts.

Essentially you need to do hill starts like a manual and use the handbrake, the dsg clutches are depressed when you have the brake applied and you slowly ease off the brake pedal and start accelerating.

As above using the handbrake but try reversing into the driveway, it will be easier to drive out forwards rather than reverse which may assist your wife.

I assume you mean DSG not Tiptronic?...

The spec sheet I have says 2007 FSI has a 6 speed auto (described as Tiptronic), not DSG. The turbo FSI and TDI were DSG.

The alternative to the handbrake is left foot braking, it might be easier to hold the brake pedal and release as you feel the auto taking up.
